Energy recovery stabiliser on a fishing boat

LIBAS trawler equipped with GSIRE stabilizer with energy recovery

PROJECT CONTEXT

The innovative and environmentally friendly 86.1m LOA seiner and trawler “Libas” is designed by Norwegian naval architect Salt Ship Design for shipowner Liegruppen. “Libas” will be the first vessel (after the GEPS Techno R&D prototype installed on the Thalassa) to be equipped with a GSIRE®, the only energy recovery stabiliser. A world first.

Two turbines with a capacity of 30kW each will be installed in the tank. The CEMRE yard has placed an order for the GSIRE® stabiliser for delivery in April 2019.

PROVEN RESULTS

After two years of sea trials on the oceanographic research vessel Thalassa (belonging to the French Institute for Marine Research – IFREMER), the following results were obtained:

  • Significantly reduced vibration and noise compared to the traditional stabiliser due to the smooth vortex chamber movement
  • High stabilisation rates
  • Easy maintenance  – no need for water level adjustments
